Julia

We can play!

Dedication:
To Julia Zhou and all the children that can play

Once there lived a family that owned a large play set and pool. The girl and the boy were named Julia and Mathew and there was a mom named Jennifer.

It was a snowy day. “Can we go out? ” asked Julia and Mathew. But Jennifer was on the phone. She couldn’t hear them. When Jennifer finished speaking on the phone, Julia and Mathew started talking with Jennifer. She was very disappointed.

First of all, they didn’t finish their work Jennifer gave them. Second of all it was snowing they should know. Jennifer also told them that the snow had piled up to the top step of the porch, and said you can’t play outside.

Then Julia and Mathew stormed off to their rooms. They thought and thought why we can’t go play? They thought about everything they could think about. Then Mathew thought, how about the weather? Isn’t that the problem? They looked out the window. They were surprised to see that the snow had covered the whole window.

Once Julia and Mathew had apologized to their mom, she was very happy to see that they thought of the solution by themselves and also understanding they were old enough to see themselves up there fighting for themselves alone because they were already in third grade. They should know to check the weather each day. And Jennifer also expected that they are responsible for their own work.

The outside was still snowy. The trees were still as white as the North Pole. Jennifer talked seriously to them. Then Jennifer said that if it’s snowing like that another day, the next day of that if the snow melted they could go out and play. When Julia and Mathew agreed about that they went to sleep peacefully.

The next day, Julia and Matthew looked outside their window. The snow was still very high. And on the email, it said: the school time was canceled. Julia and Mathew were very impatient because they wanted to play on the play set. Julia and Mathew were very impatient. A moment after that, Mathew remembered that in the bible it said “Be patient”.

And Mathew felt like the first time he was calm. He was glad he didn’t feel that impatient anymore. And he went to tell Julia about it. When he reached her room he opened the door to tell her about that. He sat down at her bed so he could tell her about that. She listened to him the first two statements.

When Julia knew what Mathew was talking about, she said that she wanted to tell him that too but he told her first.
When they got home from school and the snow melted. They asked Jennifer: can we go out and play?

Jennifer said: yes!

And they also asked her: can we invite our classmates to play?

She said yes too but she said: Just don’t track mud in the house!

And they played happily.
